Business Case for a Home Safety Liaison Officer in Wales

Business Case for a Home Safety Liaison Officer in Wales (Contact: Sarah CollesHome Safety Advisor)

1 September 2002

RoSPA recognises that home safety is a key issue in the UK that needs to be addressed. It is supported in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland with the appointment of Home Safety Liaison Officers, appointed by RoSPA and funded by the relevant Government Departments. Until recently Wales has not enjoyed such an appointment. In 2001, when the Department of Trade and Industry made short term, Modernisation Funding available, RoSPA appointed a Home Safety Liaison Officer for Wales, based in the Cardiff Office. The Business Case that Healthcare Alliances was commissioned to complete outlines the benefits that the appointment has brought to Wales in the two years that it has been funded, and argues the case for continuing this post on a long term basis to reduce accidents and injuries in the home. The business case was submitted to the Welsh Assembly Government at the end of September 2002 and funding was agreed for the post
