The future of ehealth project was based on scenario planning to develop a long-range strategy and appraoch to ehealth. The expected benefits of scenario planning for considering ehealth and telemedicine in Wales include: proactive management that is able to explore the implications of several alternative futures; a robust strategy that avoids the dangers of single-point forecasts; more effective management of change by exposing and challenging, assumptions in a non-threatening environment; a more responsive service by more rapidly modifying strategic direction as actual events unfold.
