Module details

Overview:

A one day workshop designed to focus on fine tuning communication and listening skills to enrich relationships between clients, relatives carers and with colleagues

Learning Objectives:

• Experience what disrespect feels like
• Understand the difference between dignity and respect
• See things from a patient's perpective
• Practice advanced communication techniques

Course Content:

• Examples of disrespect
• The impact of the care setting, care activities
• The influence of staff behaviour
• Kindess is not respect
• "What do you see"
• Barriers to communncation
• Reflective listening
• Taking it forward in the workplace

Feedback:

• The introduction was very powerful and set the scene for the day
• I know now what it it feels to be ignored and disempowered
• Reminded me that there are still caring people out there who are all striving for the same thing
• Very thought provoking
• Lots of tools to use and development of ideas to take back to work
