The Pulse of Policy in Wales

We’ll spend a day looking beneath the surface of health policy making in Wales.  Using some topical examples, we’ll try to understand what policy makers nationally and locally are trying to achieve and why, what gets in the way, and how to influence the process more effectively.  The approach is to combine academic policy insights with the direct experience of practitioners, in order to understand a little better the world in which we work.

Objective

  • Explore the key drivers and constraints in health policy making and implementation
  • Explore what really lies behind the current reconfiguration of hospital and community services in Wales
  • Explore what ‘integrated care’ means, and what it could offer
  • Draw some conclusions about the likely future direction of Welsh health policy
  • Understand better what managers can do to improve services in Wales
